Everything about Arpitan People totally explained

Arpitan people is the name given by promoters of the concept of Arpitania as an ethnical identity to populations living in parts of France, Italy and Switzerland (ex-possession of the duchy of Savoy, Franche-Comté, Maconnais, Forez), whose original languages belong to the Arpitan (also known as Francoprovençal) family. Recognition of Arpitans as an ethnic group is spearheaded by organisations such as Aliance culturè la arpitana in Lausanne, which issues a non-official "Arpitan passport" in order to underline the transnational identity of the region. In 2005, recognition of Arpitania, as a Euroregion was raised as an issue. The concept of Arpitania originated in the 70s with the valdotan political movement Harpitanya. In some parts or Arpitania, arpitian coexist with occitan.
